It’s been a crazy April and I think with all the follow ups and questions, I made you think too. I am learned, beginning to understand and trying very hard to not leave myself behind. My article started a conversation, which I am still not sure of but it’s started. Also, books and quilt patterns, my favorites.
I have linked this book and I do get a couple of cents if you clink here, but get it anyplace. But, please do get it.
Then this past Tuesday this arrived, I had ordered it MONTHS ago right after hearing about it. What a joy of a book !

I am trying to get my mind around a NEW normal. I have had to step way back and stop doing what is SO much a part of my DNA that it’s taken me into a circle of….understanding, screaming, crying, walking away, hurt, my ever-present giving up and just not caring anymore. It all started with my Mom falling and breaking her femur last August. Hospital, surgery, rehab, now long-term skilled care, which will be for the rest of her life. There are lots of stories from the process and not much happiness left…in me about her. A dear friend said about two months ago, “YOU have to care about and for yourself, you are lost.” I FINALLY heard her and since I’m trying to focus on me.
And NO, I still see my Mom (once a week or so), try to talk with her daily, if she will pick up the phone ( I try two times only) or she calls me??? But, I get a turn at my life now. PLEASE “Don’t share how wonderful all your care giving of others was or is. I have heard it all. I understand, I CANNOT DO IT. Or do I want too. I have said that since the beginning, with my Dad, with Mom and to my Husband. This is not news to anyone!” What I do think is knew to all, is that I meant it.
I have to think everything through, then again and again (couple of days). Pen to paper and I had a plan, have to have a plan…I always do. Reading this back…I make this sound easy, this has NOT been easy, I’m on a journey and I will be on for along time and I’m sure I will have to check myself often.
I scheduled an appointment with my Doctor, all good.
Looking around the house and found the things I have missed doing. I started a canvas months ago, the base was on it and nothing else. I pulled out my acrylic and started. Our home needed De-cluttering (VERY slowly, still working on it) needed to eat better, it all started, pretty much at ONCE. Painted our living room and dining room too…WHITE??? Have no clue, but WHITE ????
We had a huge trip coming up for our 40th anniversary and it was a great time to stop with my iPhone, that was probably the easiest. Check it one time daily and leave it alone. Also, with my little camera in hand, the trip let me take pictures, I had stopped something I love doing. I took 2448 pictures in three days at the Biltmore Estate.

Also, on the trip it gave me a chance to forget, forget everything that had happened, things that were said and made a plan of how to handle her (Mom’s) process, I will have to handle this for the rest of her life. I still have times, I can’t let things go, I just keep trying and trying.
Sleep, WONDERFUL Sleep. I love my bed, always have and always will, nothing makes me happier than a wonderful bed. I had changed sheets, but I hadn’t been doing it MY way. Well, not anymore, clean sheet every couple of days, quilts changed all the time. NEW pillows and even a new sound machine, the result, no sleeping med’s ! Win !
I don’t say sorry very often anymore, I don’t need to, I can’t make any one happy but myself. Or what I like to call, “NO, Tap dancing to make everyone happy.” No more !
I am working on my VERY short fuse…..and with that silence. BUT, Why should I have to be silent?
This process is ON going and I can say, I feel better, I understand better and I know I can be the only one to make me happy.
This is how the log cabin quilt block started, straight piecing and colors, dark on one side and light of other. Well…in my world these are light and dark colors. IF you are new to quilting log cabin is the best, straight piecing and very quick results. Doing a log cabin I like to just strips and just go, but all cutting is here for you. This quilt block is ten inches by ten inches, but if you want it larger just keep adding strips. Sign up for my newsletter below too ! See my quilt pattern shop

I have been on a bit of a journey, in my own mind and traveling over the past month. I have painted our living room and dining room. Started to understand myself better (more to come) and just stopped being to hard on myself. So, I am REALLY behind on getting out April patterns and that’s OK. I will be sharing a set of Log Cabin quilt block I did for a quilt a few years ago. Finished size of these quilt blocks will be ten inches by ten inches. I receive an email like this about three times a month. LONG ago, when home with kids this is what I did. I repaired old quilt, PLEASE, remember this is NOT a quick project, but so worth your time, how to mend an old quilt.
The Question: “I am trying to repair a quilt my mother made me for my wedding 48 years ago the bindings were torn by so much use as well as some of her beautiful star patches, I have separated the binding am not sure how to replace some triangle patches of her lone star quilt can you advise me I am a beginner have been watching a lot of videos decided I would start with this beautiful quilt that needs some fixing so I can hand it down to my daughter she adored her grandmother”
How to Repair an OLD Quilt I ALWAYS wash quilts before I mend, this one turned out VERY nice, they usually do ! I am doing 100% cotton quilt, usually from 1940-50’s THEY ARE NOT MUSEUM QUALITY QUILTS, THEY ARE LOVED AND USED QUILTS. PLEASE USE COMMON SENSE AND DO NOT EMAIL YOUR NASTY COMMENTS ABOUT OLD QUILTS AND WASHING. I HAVE HEARD IT ALL. That being said, really who wants to work on, use, repair or sleep under a dirty quilt??? These are LOVE quilts.
Three blocks in this quilt needed attention,
I like making a paper temple for the applique piece I’m addingTry to make it exact and add seam allowance at the time of cutting (it’s easier to do this way)This is the same fabric, one is the right side and one it the back sideAdd the seam allowance and cut out pieceFold down the point and press
Fold the sides over, I like to press everything and I use the tip of the small scissors to hold as the fabric will get HOT !
Applique the pink down and I hand quilted with white thread.
There are 3 baskets I fixed on this quilt
Can you find them ?

This is one of the classes I used to teach. You do squares, triangles, how to press, color placement and how to get this quilt block as shown or on point.
I can’t find the quilt??? I know it’s here some place???? I don’t think it’s ever had pictures taken of it, if it did, what did I do with them?? Old Lady moment? Anyway, here is my Growing Garden quilt pattern.
