Simple to Star Quilt Block to Something Special

Over the last few weeks, I have been sharing how I took a simple star pattern and change it.  The Simple Star Pattern
Finished quilt block will measure eight inches by eight inches

Red Pointed Star Quilt Pattern

Cut 4 Red 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” 

Cut 4 White  2 7/8” x 2 7/8”  make triangles

Cut 4 White        1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

Cut 8 Pink 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

Cut 8 Yellow       1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

Cut 8 Gray          1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

Cut 1 Red 2 1/2” x 2 1/2”

A Traditional Quilt Block with a Twist

The Quilt Ladies doing it Different

Last week I shared a Traditional Star quilt block – Here if you missed. Now it’s my time to have fun with that basic pattern. Eight inches by eight inches finished size of the quilt block.

Change a Star Quilt Block

Cut 6 Lt. Blue 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

Cut 4 White        1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

 Cut 10 White 1 7/8” x 1 7/8”

Cut these in half to make triangles

 

Cut 4 Red 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

Cut these in half to make triangles

 

Cut 2 White        2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

Cut these in half to make triangles

Cut   1 Lt. Blue 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

Cut in half to make triangles

Cut 8 Gray 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

Cut 2 Green       1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

Cut 6 Yellow      1 1/2” x 1 1/2”

Cut 4 Yellow      1 7/8” x 1 7/8”

Cut these in half to make triangles

Piece together as shown

Traditional Quilt Star Block Pattern

Quilt Pattern from The Quilt Ladies

I love playing with quilt patterns and this quilt block is a tradition quilt star block. It’s one of the first quilt blocks everyone learns to make. Today is the basic block with a finished quilt block size of eight inches by eight inches. I will be sharing what else you can do with this quilt pattern over the next few weeks.

Cut 1 White 4 1/2” x 4 1/2”

Cut 4 White 2 1/2” x 2 1/2”

Cut 4 Red 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” 

Cut 4 White 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”  Sew with Red to make triangles

Fold the sides over, I like to press everything and I use the tip of the small scissors to hold as the fabric will get HOT !

We are now ready to put this quilt pattern together,
Lay the squares out, block one then block two
