“The Ladies” they are The Quilt Ladies. They quilt every Tuesday together and after years of doing that, they’ve decided to do a quilt pattern book. So “The Ladies” was born, a quilt block sampler pattern book with 68 – Eight by Eight Inch quilt pattern blocks. All straight pieced, all cutting and piecing instructions included. It was decided that the Eight inch by Eight inch size would be a perfect size for the blocks not too small and not too large.

It’s Been a Bit !

Trying

Time to start back ?!?!??

We all know over the past months, life has been a bit….overwhelming to say the least. And  with my anxiety, it’s a bit trying at times. My knee surgery (Feb 17th) , and knee replacement rehab was a true shit show for me.

I have had fatigue over the top, panic attacks, and very long sleepless night. #2 Son is an essential worker and worry for his safety is/was numbing at time. But, now just over three months out, it’s become better. Or better said…I have just let it all go !

I’m still not at the point of glad I did the surgery and IF able and know what I do now, I would have not had it. Doc says in one year I will not notice it and in two year will be happy I did it. HE DIDN’T say that before the surgery and when I said that to him, he started to speak and Husband said, “Doc, she will get you.” And all stopped talking, HA.

In Phase One of being shut down, (March)  I loved it. Being one who can be home for days it was welcoming to just be,  to know I didn’t have to go or be judged for not going.  To me it was just easy. The first few weeks of the quarantine was all about, social media, news reports and understanding. In Florida you have a hurricane stash of everything and I keep ours up and use from it all the time. We had toilet paper, can goods, a freezer full and cleaning supplies.

As the months went on, I have pulled back from social and this site. My Etsy store is/was up and going, thank you all for your purchases. I try to post on Facebook for the quilt ladies, I need to keep the store selling.  But not much more anymore. I can’t seem to handle it, but I will keep trying.

Now, here in Florida we are in Phase two of opening and I have HAD to start going out again. Me, my mask and gloves. I didn’t drive for 10 weeks, the knee surgery and I just didn’t need or want to go !

At this time, we all have to be mindful of each other, wash our hands, not touch our face, wear a mask and be kind.

Becoming Better

a better quilterI love seeing things different and today was the day of different. This site went down and I have been dealing with chat’s, phone calls and google how to’s !   It’s up and working! Learned a few bits today !
Start looking at everything even quilts a bit different, also, someone else’s point of view, kindness of a mask, kindness of 6 feet, or just listen and NOT speak.

Make a Button Bracelet

Happy May Day Project

I have Husbands Grandmother’s buttons and I wanted to do something for just the Ladies in our family.
And here is what I made, Button Bracelets
The Quilt Ladies Banner
The Quilt Ladies Quilt Pattern Shop
I had seen the bracelets on Pinterest, but no instructions so here is how “I” did it ! !
how to make a button bracelet
First the buttons
I laid each bracelet out and made sure that each one had at least one button the same in each bracelet, the white ones
For the bracelet you need one’s with 4 holes, I used 7 per bracelet
and then 1 button with just 2 holes for the end, to use as the clasp.
how to make a button braceletI used cord “Jewelry Designer Satin Rattail”  cord
5.49 m

I cut the length about 24″ long = double it over
button bracelet tutorial
Tie a knot in the end, this will be where the end clasp button goes through
Pull the cord up and then down over the other side.
When you cross over and come up again this is when you need to
have the other cord end UNDER that closing to hold it in place.
hot to make a button bracelet
Pull the cross stitch tight, and start the process over
with the cord NOT used on the first button and do
it all again.
I left space between each button.
When you get to the end, leave about a 1 inch of cord
and add the 2 hole button, tie a knot at each hole
button bracelet tutorial
This is the end button which will become the clasp button
how to make a button braceletI made 7 bracelets

I made gift cards as I’m pretty sure no one remembers I have these buttons.

Old Ladies Rock

A Story

Today is Tell a Story Day !  and it’s Monday and I’m moving over from The Quilt Ladies Site: a classic from 6-29-2009.
Yes, I have been doing this for WAY too long, that too has been a discussion going on for a bit….but for another day. Here is

OLD Ladies ROCK – A Bike Story and Aging
Old ladies ROCK, a bike story
Well, I’m going to have to face the fact; I’M OLD. I have gone kicking and screaming (and Laughing) into middle age but yesterday
was the end all of end all.
We volunteered at a Triathlon in Des Moines, IA, it’s the swim, bike, run thing and we were bike marshall’s and I loved it. Have a chair and cheer the riders on. I loved it, until….
As we (Sister-in-law #2) cheered on, one of the female riders said,
“OLD LADIES ROCK”
I haven’t stopped laughing yet.
I know I (we) maybe not be riding, swimmer or running in spandex,
I know the hair maybe a bit gray, but an OLD lady.
I know at the age of 20, 51 is old, but please, OLD. Neither one of us have a cane, a walker or knit, well, I do quilt? Anyway, I’m claiming my 50’s ! I thought the 50’s, are the new 30’s. Will someone please tell, the 20 year old this !
Anyway here’s some pictures of the day,

Book Eight of The Quilt Ladies Collection

Quilt Patterns and Stories

The writing of book 8 was so much fun for me. I planned a wedding and did not answer, ask or tell anyone, why or what I wanted. From the simpleness of the day, to the family and friends. It is what I hope my day was about, many years ago. Back then I sold individual copies of each story and quilt pattern. But things they have changed, the complete collection is available only on kindle. The book is over 400 pages long, 15 complete quilt patterns, and 12 quilt stories.

The Quilt Ladies Book Collection  ONLY on Kindle and NOOK

At the time of book 8’s writing, we lived in Windom, Minnesota. A VERY long way from home and I had some long days and even longer nights. Son #2 was in high school, working, sports and always busy, Husband had his first retail store and worked 24/7.
And I wrote, The wedding was on….. I wrote, ate and dreamed of nothing but a wedding, for months and months. Then came the quilt. It was overwhelming, everything I’ve always wanted in a quilt. This one was designed and made for me, no one else, just ME!

There are 12 blocks,  machine pieced and hand appliqued with
vines and leaves.
