How to Survive Retirement with Fun – Beth Ann Doing

Think About What You Will Do in Retirement

Thinking about retirement or already retired? Here are my tips to find fun, excitement, and joy in your days. It took us 40 years to achieve our retirement goal, and I see people struggling every day to find happiness in their every day retirement. In print or Kindle and NOW on Amazon Prime

How to Survive Retirement

When Husband and I tell people we retired early, reaching ages 57 and 55, they ask, “What do you do all day?”, very rarely do they ask, “How do you afford it?”

Before retirement, you plan financially and set a retirement date, but we don’t take time to figure out what we want to do for 20-30 years of our retirement. It’s been ten years now and we’ve seen that everyone assumes you magically know how to retire, but the truth is that you don’t.

That’s why I’ve written this book to share my life lessons and help you plan your life for the 20-30 years of retirement. With no money talk, this book contains all the ideas to make your retirement what you want and need it to be for years of joy.

There are just four things you need to expect in retirement:

1. We are all going to die
2. Stop fearing change.
3 .Stop living in the past.
4. Be easy on yourself
These four things may not need to be said, but please think about them.
#1 is one that can help you get up, get started and do what you want.
#2 is fearing change, you will and need to change.
#3 past is the past let it go.
#4 take care of yourself and be kind to yourself.

Here in my book, laugh, read and find your passions by staying connected, keeping your mind active, embracing slow living, and finding your community can help you thrive in retirement.

But ultimately, the key to surviving retirement with joy is to find what works for you and your unique situation. Whether it’s quilting, travel, volunteering, family or something entirely different, find what brings you happiness and purpose, and go for it!

Making a Quilt for a Grandchild – The Quilt Ladies

Quilt Block Pattern for Grand #1

This is my original post from The Quilt Ladies Site about the process of making a quilt for Grand #1.

Can’t get photo’s to move to the center?!?! Maybe moving from one to other? But…here is the quilt block pattern for you, I have used this quilt block and it’s HERE for you  to make

from 3-2009 post
Here Grandma goes,
Little Boy's First Quilt, star quilt pattern

Grand One’s Bedroom is Blue, with space things. I’m not doing planets. So it’s a bit of blue, red and a tan background.

Little Boy's First Quilt, star quilt pattern

I always start with a pattern, I have a software program, but for years I used graph paper. The size, the block, borders and binding, all right in front of me, usually doing the sections for a couple of blocks at a time.

Little Boy's First Quilt, star quilt pattern

I don’t like cutting yards of material and then putting one block together and then not liking it.
Plus I need to see the end result.

I know no one will notice, but this is the same pattern as his first baby quilt 6 years ago. That one was hand quilted, this one will be tied as I know how it will be loved, washed and washed.
Little Boy's First Quilt, star quilt pattern

I have the blocks finished and I’m going to get them all put together and off of the sewing room.

Rotary Cutter for Fabric and Acrylic Rulers

Learning How to Quilt

Let’s learn a bit about rotary cutter quilt tool, it makes cutting out your quilt quicker and easier. If just starting to quilt and not sure about all the quilting supplies,  HERE is my tutorial on using freezer paper to make quilt templates. IF new to quilting and you are thinking about purchasing a cutter, here is a set that’s very good.  Yes, I do get a few cents if you purchase through me and thank you.

A rotary cutter is a tool used by quilters to cut fabric with precision and ease. It resembles a pizza cutter with a sharp circular blade that rotates when used. The blade is typically made of high-quality stainless steel and comes in different sizes, ranging from 18 mm to 60 mm. A fun thing about quilting and us quilters is we LOVE quilt products…
cutting with an acrylic ruler - the quilt ladies
Place your fabric on a cutting mat using an acrylic ruler. Acrylic rulers come in a variety of sizes and shapes, making it possible to find one that fits your specific project needs. You can choose from long rulers for cutting wide strips of fabric or small rulers for more intricate cuts. Additionally, some rulers have special features, such as grids, angles, or markings, which help you make more complex cuts and create unique designs.
