The Quilt Ladies Weekly News

This is what I worked on the past few weeks and this past week add Thanksgiving into it too ! !
My Secretary Hutch for our kitchen ! ! and I love it.

This old secretary desk came to me tired, faded, and a little wobbly ($50). Over the past two weeks, I’ve sanded, glued, repaired, cleaned, and finally painted it back into something that makes me smile every time I walk into my kitchen. It’s amazing how a little love, a little patience, and a lot of elbow grease can completely transform a piece.

I know some don’t like painted wood, this wood was not the best, pieced together a bit, I saved what I could and had a ball painting the rest. secretary finished and painted the quilt ladies This project is the largest I have done since my library and it has reminded me how satisfying it is to slow down and bring furniture piece back to life.

Yes, I hand painted the back, it’s on art paper so IF
I want later, I can change it

Thought for the Week

I think this is what we do with our Quilts,
The most ordinary things become extraordinary the moment we decide they’re worth saving. This week, look at what’s already around you with new eyes and find joy in bringing a little beauty back to life.

Happy Thanksgiving To You All

Hello Friends! Welcome all!

This week has been all about bringing an old treasure back to life. We picked up a beautiful, slightly time worn secretary desk, the kind with curves, character, and just enough imperfections to make you fall in love with the challenge.

Once we got it into good lighting, it became clear: this little beauty was going to need some serious cleaning, glueing, and elbow grease before a single drop of paint could even think about coming near it.

I have been using AI for images and I have seen others ask AI for what I should do to this item, room etc.
WELL.. this is what I received ! !
I give it my pic of the secretary and said, add quilts around it, make it pretty. Well…it’s pretty !

hutch with quilts

This project is NOT  “a quick wipe-down”
It’s became glueing, nailing and a few trim pieces practically sighed with relief when we pressed them back into place. There’s a quiet joy in this kind of work, a slow, steady rhythm that lets your mind breathe while your hands stay busy. Now the desk is finally solid and ready for paint, and I’m narrowing down colors. something classic, (and that I already have) soft, and worthy of its beautiful shape. The transformation has already begun and a bit over the top in spots ! Just letting Me, be ME !

And of course, with Thanksgiving tucked into the middle of the week, I can’t help but feel grateful for the pause this holiday brings. While the turkey roasts and the pie cools, I’ll be thinking about how this old desk like me right now, just needed a bit of care, patience, and maybe we can book shine again. There’s a certain fitting poetry in working on a restoration during a week built around gratitude.

Next week, we’ll get to the pretty part: paint, details, and maybe even a surprise inside. Stay tuned… this secretary desk makeover is just getting started.

Friends, a Cruise and Table Talk

The Quilt Ladies Weekly News

Hello Friends! Welcome All!

The Quilt Ladies Weekly NewsWe returned from a five-day cruise last week, one of those you do and I can’t stop thinking about. It was with three other couples, our heart friends, and let me tell you… sometimes the best vacations are the ones that don’t go exactly the way you expect. The weather had its own agenda, the sea a bit rumbly, and instead of hopping off at multiple ports like we planned, we made only one stop. But you know what? It turned into one of the most unexpectedly lovely cruise trips we’ve had in a long time.

Cruising out of Tampa Bay

When the waves got rough, we settled in. Our days were filled with long, slow stretches of cards and games, the kind where everyone slowly gets more competitive but also laughs harder. The kind where someone always needs “just one more round,” even though we’ve been playing for hours. We leaned into it, letting the simple fun carry us.

Evenings were for lingering at the dinner table far longer than usual. The conversations began flowing like an extra course, filling the corners of the table with stories, memories, and that easy kind of friendship that only happens when nobody is rushed. We talked about everything and nothing, laughed until we cried, and soaked in the kind of connection that busy everyday life rarely leaves room for.  Only for unexpected joy, good friends, and the kind of days that don’t need a schedule to be wonderful.

Thought of the Week

I had read this in a book once, “filling the corners of the table,” and didn’t understand until these dinners.
Simply enjoy who’s sitting at the table. Let this week be a reminder to lean into the unexpected, savor the simple, and let conversation and connection be enough.

Quilts in all Forms

This week has been all about color, paint, and petals! I finally finished my Flower Quilt Painting, a bright mix of blooms and patterns inspired by the fabrics I’ve been stitching with lately. It’s a little bit quilt, a little bit garden and completely full of joy. And…I could do it sitting down and NO noise, this cold has knotted me down.  Plus, I need something just for me !

Okay, I LOVE my library/office. This was our 2025 first project, Husband’s Doc said, “Go live your life, did it before? Do it now”. HERE  On the drive home Husband said, “Well, what about that library you want to build?” And I was off, we did all of the work ourselves! And 100% pissed off our HOA and I have not ONE problem with any of it !

It’s Been a Strange Week !

Hello, Everyone !  We are home from a long weekend visiting the kids, they needed our extra hands, and that became laughter, stories, and way too much airport time.
The trip was wonderful, but the airplane air, the shuttle? the train? the waiting…not so much. Let’s just say I came home with a little travel “souvenir”, the kind that requires tea, drugs, tissues, and extra naps.

So, this week, I’m taking it slow. A soft quilt over my lap, a book in hand, TV remote for baseball and football, of course MORE ideas already swirling for next week’s block pattern. Sometimes life reminds us to pause, and that’s okay, that works in well with my Living Slow
which is NOW on Kindle Unlimited too

It’s Been a Journey

Purchase today! My New Books

This year, something shifted. Somewhere between the quilt blocks, coffee cups, and early morning ideas, I decided to stop waiting for “someday” and start doing. Not because everything was perfectly lined up, (far from it) but because it finally felt like time to live the ideas I’ve been dreaming about for years.  I’ve been writing, stitching, and creating in a way that feels more me than ever before. This is the year of following what I want to do, what I need to do, and what brings me quiet joy.  From my quilt pattern books to the devotionals I’ve always wanted to share, to stories that have been sitting patiently in my heart, they’re all finding their way into the world.

I have started and stopped this quilt pattern book of YEARS. I can’t explain it but…I have finished it! AND  it’s here for you .  These are the quilt patterns from my Original Quilt Ladies Book
