Friends, a Cruise and Table Talk

The Quilt Ladies Weekly News

Hello Friends! Welcome All!

The Quilt Ladies Weekly NewsWe returned from a five-day cruise last week, one of those you do and I can’t stop thinking about. It was with three other couples, our heart friends, and let me tell you… sometimes the best vacations are the ones that don’t go exactly the way you expect. The weather had its own agenda, the sea a bit rumbly, and instead of hopping off at multiple ports like we planned, we made only one stop. But you know what? It turned into one of the most unexpectedly lovely cruise trips we’ve had in a long time.

Cruising out of Tampa Bay

When the waves got rough, we settled in. Our days were filled with long, slow stretches of cards and games, the kind where everyone slowly gets more competitive but also laughs harder. The kind where someone always needs “just one more round,” even though we’ve been playing for hours. We leaned into it, letting the simple fun carry us.

Evenings were for lingering at the dinner table far longer than usual. The conversations began flowing like an extra course, filling the corners of the table with stories, memories, and that easy kind of friendship that only happens when nobody is rushed. We talked about everything and nothing, laughed until we cried, and soaked in the kind of connection that busy everyday life rarely leaves room for.  Only for unexpected joy, good friends, and the kind of days that don’t need a schedule to be wonderful.

Thought of the Week

I had read this in a book once, “filling the corners of the table,” and didn’t understand until these dinners.
Simply enjoy who’s sitting at the table. Let this week be a reminder to lean into the unexpected, savor the simple, and let conversation and connection be enough.

Quilts in all Forms

This week has been all about color, paint, and petals! I finally finished my Flower Quilt Painting, a bright mix of blooms and patterns inspired by the fabrics I’ve been stitching with lately. It’s a little bit quilt, a little bit garden and completely full of joy. And…I could do it sitting down and NO noise, this cold has knotted me down.  Plus, I need something just for me !

Okay, I LOVE my library/office. This was our 2025 first project, Husband’s Doc said, “Go live your life, did it before? Do it now”. HERE  On the drive home Husband said, “Well, what about that library you want to build?” And I was off, we did all of the work ourselves! And 100% pissed off our HOA and I have not ONE problem with any of it !

It’s Been a Strange Week !

Hello, Everyone !  We are home from a long weekend visiting the kids, they needed our extra hands, and that became laughter, stories, and way too much airport time.
The trip was wonderful, but the airplane air, the shuttle? the train? the waiting…not so much. Let’s just say I came home with a little travel “souvenir”, the kind that requires tea, drugs, tissues, and extra naps.

So, this week, I’m taking it slow. A soft quilt over my lap, a book in hand, TV remote for baseball and football, of course MORE ideas already swirling for next week’s block pattern. Sometimes life reminds us to pause, and that’s okay, that works in well with my Living Slow
which is NOW on Kindle Unlimited too

It’s Been a Journey

Purchase today! My New Books

This year, something shifted. Somewhere between the quilt blocks, coffee cups, and early morning ideas, I decided to stop waiting for “someday” and start doing. Not because everything was perfectly lined up, (far from it) but because it finally felt like time to live the ideas I’ve been dreaming about for years.  I’ve been writing, stitching, and creating in a way that feels more me than ever before. This is the year of following what I want to do, what I need to do, and what brings me quiet joy.  From my quilt pattern books to the devotionals I’ve always wanted to share, to stories that have been sitting patiently in my heart, they’re all finding their way into the world.

I have started and stopped this quilt pattern book of YEARS. I can’t explain it but…I have finished it! AND  it’s here for you .  These are the quilt patterns from my Original Quilt Ladies Book
NO story just my quilt complete quilt patterns. HERE

Read the daily readings of the Book of Luke and make a quilt block, or save for later, from The Quilt Ladeis.

The Book is Luke is a ten plus year of wanting to do! It’s a December reading, but I have been doing it daily, creating daily reflections that has deepened my faith and filled me with calm purpose. And I’m finally saying yes to the projects I’ve dreamed about for years, not someday, but now.

And 25 Daily Quilt block Patterns TOO ! !

Self-Binding Tutorial of a Quilt

Tuesday Thread How to Quilt

Self-Binding Quilt Tutorial
Self Binding means:
Bring the quilt backing to the front and using it as your binding, I am bring this over from The Quilt Ladies, this post is used and asked for all the time, Thank you for that.
Just a few days ago I received this comment on my original post:
from Helen:

After reading the tutorial 3 times I committed to try it.
It worked perfectly. I just followed the instructions and it worked
on a table runner. This method stops so much waste of material.

See all MY Books in PRINT HERE
Step by Step How to do Self Binding on a Quilt Make your quilt block, add batting heat resistant, and quilt. Trim the batting even with your quilt top
How to do Self Binding on a QuiltCut one backing 1″ from the quilt edge

How to do Self Binding on a QuiltFold the backing to the edge of the quilt, 1/2″, I like to press it down

How to do Self Binding on a Quilt
Again, fold the backing over onto the quilt top, make sure you are on the quilt top with the edge, this is your sewing edge, pin it down
Self-Binding Quilt Tutorial from The Quilt LadiesAnd then do the steps as before,
fold over half way and
then fold over half way again.
Pin well.
Self-Binding Quilt Tutorial from The Quilt LadiesSometimes at the corner you will have to move it around a bit
to make the corner perfect, go slow and pin well.
Self-Binding Quilt Tutorial from The Quilt LadiesWhen I get it like, I like,  pin and I press a bit, between pins and at the corner
it holds it just a bit better.
Remember, pressing is up and down with an iron.
Doing it up and down your fabric will not stretch or move.
With your machine sew along the backing edge, do a few back stitches to hold ends

Self-Binding Quilt Tutorial from The Quilt LadiesI like doing 2 rows of stitching, just my personal like.
