Bonnie Scotsman Quilt Block for YOU to Make

This little quilt block has taken on a life of it’s own. It’s my number one on all social media spots. Probably the quilt blocks name. Bonnie Scotsman quilt block.

I want to show you how it can look together in a few different ways.
Finished quilt block is four by four inches, all straight line piecing.

Putting Monthly Quilt Block Pattern into a quilt from The Quilt Ladies.

So I am going to try again to get things roller here on my site.

I had an email, how to put the monthly quilt blocks together into a quilt. Here are the links to the quilt blocks so far. Each quilt block has a finished size of 12″ x 12″

For the quilt as shown below
Example quilts :

Cut 6 White – 3 ½” x 12 ½”
Sew to block for form rows

Piece sashing
Cut 6 White – 3 ½” x 12 ½”
Cut 4 Red – 3 ½” x 3 ½”
Sew into rows as shown

Cut 2 Green – 3 ½” x 42 ½”
Sew to the top and bottom

Cut 2 Green – 3 ½” x 48 ½”
Sew to the left and right side

Cut Green Binding – 2 ½” x 195”

Examples: – finished quilt will be 48″ x 48″
this one is using the quilt block from February

Center of the Block
Cut 8 Assorted Colors – 1 ½” x 2 ½”
Piece as shown

White Edge
Cut 1 White – 1 ½” x 4 ½” sew to the top
Cut 2 White – 1 ½” x 5 ½” sew to the right side and bottom
Cut 1 White – 1 ½” x 6 ½” sew to the left side

Green Edge
Cut 1 Green – 1 ½” x 6 ½” sew to the top
Cut 2 Green – 1 ½” x 7 ½” sew to the right side and bottom
Cut 1 Green – 1 ½” x 8 ½” sew to the left side

Outside Edge
Cut 8 Assorted Colors – 1 ½” x 2 ½”

Cut 4 Assorted Colors 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”
Cut 4 White – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”
Make Triangles

Cut 8 Brown – 1 ½” x 2 ½”

Cut 4 White – 2 ½” x 2 ½”

Simple Log Cabin Quilt Pattern

Make a Simple Quilt Block

There are only 2 quilt blocks to this quilt and

what makes it look like many more is the fabric. Machine pieced and I hand quilted with large stitches. You will need a total of 20 quilt blocks to make this quilt as shown.

I didn’t over think fabric, if it was a paisley, it was in and if it was a plaid, it was in, everything was from my closet. not thinking about ANY placement. Cut square and let the piecing go as it may ! Finished block size 6″ x 6″ Here is how I sew squares.

Free Log Cabin Quilt Pattern Block for a Plaid Quilt

Quilt Block Pattern ONE

Cut 4 assort colors – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

Sew into 4-Patch

Cut 1 plaid, – 4 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Sew to the right side

Cut 1 plaid – 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Sew to top

Cut 1 plaid – 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Sew to left side

Cut 1 plaid – 6 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Sew to bottom

NOW in Print and eBooks

It’s been washed hundreds of time and is soooo…. soft.

Quilt Block Pattern TWO

Cut on center – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

Cut 2 green plaids for sides – 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Sew to sides

Cut 2 green plaids – 4 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Sew to the top and bottom

Cut 2 blue plaids, 4 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Sew to the sides

Cut 2 blue plaids – 6 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Sew to the top and bottom

Strip between quilt blocks,

Cut 2=3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″

Strips long ways 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ with
3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ squares

5 1/2″ paisley border and binding.

The finished size is a square 50″ x 50″ a good size for curling up on the couch. I used a 100% cotton batting and hand quilted.

The name of this block is “The Rosebud”

I had fun with color on my block, but looking now, I would have made the corner green darker, but hindsight… If you like the center flower do a bit of fabric placement to make the center of the quilt block pop.

Finished Quilt Block size 10″ x 10″
