The inspiration came from the traditional quilt pattern known as bear paw. Something about those paws caught my imagination, and I just had to reinterpret them in a splashier, more playful way.

Quilt Stars of Many Colors – from The Quilt Ladies
Two Complete quilt patterns in this one book, one quilt is featured in red, green with white background. Other is in darker colors with a gray background. I have one Grandson who is just his own person (from birth), has his own ideas and his VERY own way of doing everything. A simple Friendship pattern is taken in a new direction, from its basic form turns into a fun and wonderful. Each block has a finished size of Twelve-by-Twelve Inchesand you have a total of Twelve patterns.

I pretty much dream quilt blocks…I love moving around pieces and changing each quilt block with small pattern changes or fabric colors. These quilt blocks came about from my small quilt groups challenge of taking the same quilt center and we each do a quilt block and see what we come up with. I designed twenty-eight quilt blocks…and made the ones here… I pretty much turned the group sideways, as they weren’t that receptive… You know a quilt group, follow the rules, didn’t hear any rules…but that’s OK, here they are for YOU ! Mary Alice returned with the coffee and found that
Helen had finished a total of three two patches. “Hope you don’t mind, but
these cookies looked good. Great for coffee dunking.”
Helen’s mind was working. Now her body needed a little help, too. As Helen had her coffee and three cookies, they talked. Mary Alice showed her how to unfold the sewn square and draw another ¼ inch line from the top on the wrong side of the fabric. (How to quilt)
“Take this piece and add to the back of it another one just like it, good fabric to good fabric. Place it seam to seam and stitch them together.” Mary Alice did one as Helen ate.
They talked and sewed all afternoon. Helen did not need to put the line on the fabric any more, and a rhythm had started with her stitches.
“There is no wrong way or right way of quilting, just your way.”
When they spread out their work, they had finished ten, four patch squares. Mary Alice showed Helen how she could put them together, one after another, or place a solid fabric in between. Helen’s eyes were dancing as she looked at her work. She had finished a row, putting one after another.
“I like to sit by a window with the sun light or a lamp, put my feet up and get comfortable for some serious sewing.”

The Ladies Quilt Pattern started early on in my quilt designing. I love sampler quilts, I draw and draw quilt blocks. Some are the classic ones and some are the ones I designed and like.
When I was designing and planning this quilt, I was home day after day. I would spend entire days piecing quilt blocks. Kind of my heaven and there are 68 quilt blocks in this quilt book/pattern. Husband worked twelve-hour days, six days a week. And I seemed to be able to be content and happy in my world of quilt blocks. The thing that took The Ladies to the next level was the trip to the fabric shop. I was always hoping to own a shop,(dream) any way, I knew the blue fabric was right when I saw it. Purchasing fabric is kind of a sport to me and I do it ALL the time. Knowing the blue was going to be the base and pop color of the quilt I purchased about 5 yards. Way more than would be needed. But…more is more. The additional colors, pink, green and the blue pattern were from my scrap closet that I had on hand. With this quilt I figured out each blocks colors as I pieced it, but not each quilt block as it would be put together into the quilt. And/or what quilt block would be placed next to each other.
