Christmas in July with a Quilt Pattern Book

This Quilt started with a simple Bear Paw quilt block and then drawing and drawing sixteen quilt blocks that took that simple block and made all sixteen mine. The quilt was always going to have a white background, I love quilt lines on white fabric, pink of course that’s me, adding color with greens, red, in both solids and prints. The outside border is pieced with green square and triangle leaves. Have you ever made a quilt and as each quilt block is finished you giggle at what you just did? This is how I felt as this quilt was going together, into a finished eighty-eight by eighty-four-inch quilt. Kind of Perfect. See all the Quilt Books

Funny thing about helping with Husband’s knee surgery recovery….I needed a get away from it !
He’s doing pretty good (2 weeks in), IF I can keep him down, he’s going and doing all the time ! I have been working on this book for a bit and have to say I love the results.

Three Color Quilt Block to Make

It’s always time to start thinking a little about the Holiday’s and here is ONE of the quilt block from my Downloadable quilt pattern book at my Etsy Shop “Holiday Quilt”

Here is how I make triangles, there are many ways, this is mine.
Finished quilt block is twelve by twelve inches.

Cut 2 Green – 4 7/8” x 4 7/8”
Cut 2 White – 4 7/8” x 4 7/8”

Make Triangles

Cut 10 Red – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

Sew as shown

Red Fabric and Fade

Do This With all Fabrics

I start by WASHING and DRYING all my fabrics as soon as I get them home. Color fabric with colors and whites/background together in cold water. I am in Florida and our water on cold is like a medium temp water in the Midwest. NOTE: Red and White Quilt Pattern Coming Soon to The Quilt Ladies Quilt Pattern Shop.

When I use Pre-cut fabric I wash the quilt after the top is pieced, before batting and quilting. I still do this EXTRA step as shown below when using a solid color with a white background., after machine washing and drying fabric.
These are the fabrics that I will check for color fade.

I make my own little washing, I use dish soap and hot tap water

Add fabric, move it around

Add lid and shake as a washer does. Let is set for a bit. 10-15 minutes.

Rise well, this fabric DID NOT fade.

IF NO fading please check for fade or bleed in drying. Lay fabric on clean white paper towel and let dry. Some fabrics will dry color onto another fabric.

These fabrics did NOT fade or bleed, time to cut a quilt ! !
