I draw quilt patterns all the time and what I like is to take a traditional pattern and change it up. The second quilt block added corner four-patch and moved from white to color triangles. Finished Quilt Block is eight inch by eight inch.

Traditional quilt pattern block
Cut 4 Green2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″
Cut 4 White – 2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″
Make Triangles
Cut 4 Green – Cut 4 White – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
Sew as Shown for eight by eight inch quilt block.
OR….do THIS ! ! – It’s a bit the same, but then again, a bit different, which is how I see things.
Cut 4 Red and 4 Blue – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” triangles Make Triangles
Cut 2 White and Cut 2 Red – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” triangles Make Triangles
Cut 8 Red and Cut 8 White 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” Make 4 Four-patch quilt blocks
