I love this quilt pattern it’s so simple and just a bit quirky. The square on the bottom turns into the base of the quilt block. The finished size of this quilt block is six inches by six inches.
This is how I use it on my dresser. It makes me happy to see it.
Make 16 basket blocks, finished quilt is 24” x 24” if made an shown. I use mine on my dresser or the center of our dining room table. But, would also be a great baby quilt or lap quilt.

We have made a square, a triangle and some basic quilt info. NOW it’s time for some FUN quilt block patterns. Don’t over think these, just step by step.
Quarter Square Triangle
Cut 2 squares, 1 each color – your squares needs to be cut 1 ¼” larger than the
finished size you need, example
you need a 4” finished square cut square 5 ¼” x 5 ¼”
On lightest color on the back, pencil mark from corner to corner.
Sew ¼” from the line, on each side of the line.
With scissors cut on each of the 2 lines, open up, move the match colors, pin and sew you will have 2 blocks

After learning to make a square, the next step is the triangle. Just like the square if you are not ready to purchase a rotary cutter and mat. You will need to make a freezer paper pattern. How I do my Square’s This post may contain affiliate links. I will receive a few cents if you click to their site and purchase
Take the FINISHED size of the square you want and add 7/8 of an inch. example: for a finished size 2 inch square you will cut your fabric 2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″
for a finished size 3 inch square you will cut your fabric 3 7/8″ x 3 7/8″ for a finished size 4 inch square you will cut your fabric 4 7/8″ x 4 7/8″
And so on, either make you freezer paper pattern or up with a rotary cutter and ruler.
I’ve used a 3 inch FINISHED Square cut 3 7/8″ x 3 7/8″A light and a dark.
On the Wrong side of the light fabric draw a line from corner to corner.
This is the cutting line NOT sewing line
On your sewing machine sew a straight seam, 1/4″ from the line.
Turn and do the same thing on the other side.
(when I have many to sew, I do chain piecing, one right after another, not stopping the machine until all finished and then turn and do the other side) If NEW do them one at a time.

I love playing with quilt patterns and this quilt block is a tradition quilt star block. It’s one of the first quilt blocks everyone learns to make. Today is the basic block with a finished quilt block size of eight inches by eight inches. I will be sharing what else you can do with this quilt pattern over the next few weeks.

I’m usually one who goes to white for my background color. With this quilt block being a traditional star I wanted to change to a colored background and it’s PINK ! The finished quilt block is 12″ x 12″
Nothing better than a two-color quilt pattern and this star is a perfect example. This quilt block is only one of the 68 Quilt Blocks made into a fantastic quilt in my book The Ladies at my Etsy Shop and now in print
