Loving quilt blocks and making them is not going together right now, me and my sewing machine are having…moments. So, I am walking away for a bit from THAT machine…but I have hundreds of quilt blocks drawn up and for the next few, I will be building from a simple quilt block pattern, and with changing placement and color, see how that simple quilt block is transformed. This simple quilt block pattern has a finished size of eight inches by eight inches. How to piece quilt block squares

Cut 2 White 4 1/2” x 4 1/2”
Cut 4 White 2 1/2” x 2 1/2”
Cut 4 Green 2 1/2” x 2 1/2”

Star Around a Quilt Block

Over the next few days, I will be sharing a fun quilt block pattern with you. This quilt block has a finished size of twenty inches by twenty inches. Let’s get started with the Center Star

Cutting for ONE entire Quilt Block
YOU will need only 20 squares
Cut 20 Assorted Colors – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
OR as shown here
Cut 5 – Blue – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
Cut 5 – Red – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
Cut 5 – Gray – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
Cut 5 – Lt. Gray – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

Cut 12 Purple – 2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″
Cut 12 White – 2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″
Make Triangles – How I make Triangles

Cut 4 White – 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
Cut 8 White 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″
Cut 4 White – 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″
Cut 4 White – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

Sew 4 squares to make 4-Patch – How I do Squares
Sew 2 triangles together – 2 times
Sew to the top and bottom of 4-Patch

Sew 2 triangles together – 2 times
Sew a square to each end and Sew to sides of the Quilt Block

You have to love this quilt block name, Shoofly and I’m sharing a 3 inch by 3 inch finished quilt block today. (Triangles) I choose a bit darker fabric for the four squares around the center, just me.

A free quilt pattern for you and I’m doing it a bit different, sharing the pattern as usual, but then I will walk you through the piecing of the quilt pattern.

Cutting for entire block

Cut 1 Lt. Green – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

Cut 1 White – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

Make Triangles

Cut 1 Green – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

Cut 1 White – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”
