Rocking in History

Happy Mother’s Day from my home to all you quilt. A bit of my story.

Pin Wheel Quilt Pattern Block in Yellow and Orange

Long ago, my Great-great Grandmother made this quilt.

I knew nothing of the quilt or her until years and years later.

But this quilt changed a lot in me and in my life. Here is the Pinwheel Quilt Pattern for you !

What I knew, was this rocker. This is (above) my Great Grandmother, Martha Hale. The rocker was hers and she was the ONLY one who sat in it. I remember her kitchen with a long white table and really heavy chairs. I remember the smells and I wish with all my heart I had been older to talk and listen to her. She lived until she was 93 years old.

This is my Grandmother, Glade, my hero, my heart and my friend. Grandma lived, she laughed, she played and she worked very hard in a man’s world of her day. She was teaching and I was learning from her until the day she left us, I had the honor of being her grand-daughter.

On one of the very last times I’d visited my Great-Grandmother Hale, pictured above. My Grandmother Glade remembers me saying, “I love that rocker.” A week before my wedding Grandma Glade asked me to stop down to her house, I did and when I arrived she gave me the rocker. She had it for years, I’d never seen it in her home. When I asked she said, “I’ve been holding it for you.”

This is my mother in the rocker. Mom is still with us in a nursing center, she is 92.

And my Belinda, my sister, with Grandma Glade. Belinda was 9 years old when I was born, she named me, she never played with dolls again, she had me, I was her doll.

She gives me her love and she has mine, 100% until the day I die.

These ladies and this rocker is a staple in my life and in our home, it has rocked many babies, and it has never asked for anything. It’s as solid as my family of Ladies.

to all who are with us and in our hearts today.

From The Quilt book which started my quilt pattern company “The Ladies” quilt pattern book. “The Ladies” are The Quilt Ladies. They quilt every Tuesday together and after years of doing that, they’ve decided to do a quilt pattern book. So “The Ladies” was born, a quilt block sampler pattern book with 68 – Eight by Eight Inch quilt pattern blocks. If you make the quilt as in the book the finished quilt measures 76″ x 84″ All straight pieced, all cutting and piecing instructions included.

Quilt Block has a finished size of eight inches by eight inches.

Cut 3 Lt. Blue – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”
Cut 3 White – – 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”
Make Triangles

Cut 1 Dark Blue – 4 7/8” x 4 7/8”

I started Slow and Self-Care early in 2018, it’s been an on-going project. I’ve fallen short a few times, but always gathered myself up and started again. The Anxiety of Anxiety

My entire life it was something I dealt with quietly, internally and even sometimes loudly. Never spoken of, not talked about until I happened upon my now doctor at sixty.
NO one will be free of stress, but you must learn to live and go about life with it. You need to make yourself first, this is terribly hard and still today, I quite myself, listen to myself and do what is need for me. Learn my tricks, my silent word prayer, mine is HAPPY ! over and over, hundreds of times in my mind.
Slowing Down has been VERY rewarding. Look around see what is around you, and SLOW is 30 seconds, not minutes slow, when you slow down YOU become first in your own world.

This quilt pattern is “The Ladies” they are The Quilt Ladies. They quilt every Tuesday together and after years of doing that, they’ve decided to do a quilt pattern book.
So “The Ladies” was born, a quilt block sampler pattern book with 68 – Eight by Eight Inch quilt pattern blocks. All straight pieced, all cutting and piecing instructions included. It was decided that the Eight inch by Eight inch size would be a perfect size for the blocks not too small and not too large.

Come make a quilt or a block or two with The Quilt Ladies in their book, “The Ladies” The finished quilt measures 76″ x 84″ How to put the quilt together, cutting piecing instructions and quilt binding section too!
